It's time to get rid of it and focus on things that matter. It's not a fight worth having, nor will it be one with much of any chance of winning.

I think I'd be done with this spineless University at that point. It wouldn't stop at the 3-in-1, and if the University isn't willing to take a stand when it comes to the three most traditional songs the University has then they aren't ever going to take one.

I'm glad they took a stand against having a #$%&@!ty basketball coach. Personally could absolutely care less about taking a stand on a #$%&@!ty song, medley, medley of #$%&@!ty songs, etc...

It historically takes them a long time to take a stand on cruddy coaches as it is.

Would you root for the Fighting Squirrels? If they'll let go of the 3-in-1, the team name is next.

I'd be the wrong person to ask as I don't follow teams because of their mascots, nicknames, or songs. From a tradition standpoint, there's nothing Illinois currently does that is the slightest bit unique or interesting. About the only thing Illinois is well known for is losing games, controversies, and hiring bad coaches.

Heck, hitting the reset button might be for the best. The next generation of fans wouldn't know any better....or care.

Cool if Notre Dame drops the Victory March or if Michigan drops The Victors then? School songs and marching bands are one of the things that makes college football and college teams unique. It's part of the game day experience and has been for over 100 years. You said yourself, winning isn't a tradition Illinois has, we have to have some tradition.

I'd be delighted if ND and scUM both dropped their songs.😁

I anticipated this response, but I like mocking the song when they fail on the field. :D

Just curious, this is the second or third time you've dropped this connection, how do you know his son?

And can he get his dad to drop the ongoing assault on Illini athletics?

If that happens, it's a complete failure to affirm the branding/re-brand the name as a tribute to soldiers. They should've dropped war chant, March of the Illini/3-in-1, and anything else Chief-related in '07 and picked a new mascot/symbol.

It wouldn't matter. There are some (faculty) who just resent Illinois athletics and college athletics in general, always have, always will. It doesn't matter how you package it, as long as it's generating huge revenue that's not being distributed around campus and as long as the highest paid state employee in almost every state is a college coach, there will always be people offended. We could be the "Gentle Squirrels" and they would protest concussions or player compensation or something else (which would actually be a more just cause than what the band plays at halftime).

I recall only one previous mention,
regarding the same meal.

In any case, fellow UHS grad and probably not.

I don't think he has anything against the U.

Have you ever asked him what his dad's beef is with the University?!
